Roanoke Valley Senior Golf Tour

2021 Tour Information

The Roanoke Valley Senior Golf Tour was organized in 2003 as a competitive venue for senior golfers, 55 and older, in the Roanoke Valley and surrounding area.  Our season schedule consists of nine tournaments, hosted at courses in Roanoke, Lynchburg, Blacksburg, and the New River Valley.  The scheduled courses typically change every year.

All tournaments are played from the senior teeing ground (typically 5300-5800 yards) as specified by the committee. Event Handicaps are computed for the specific course, and the field is flighted into three divisions to permit competition among players with similar handicaps.  Five net awards are presented in each division, plus an overall tournament low gross.  We also offer an optional Medalist Division with five awards competing with gross scores only.  We use a modified USGA handicap system.  Only RVSGT rounds are used to compute these handicaps.  For more details, please refer to the HANDICAP INFO page on this website.

The Tour also offers Year End Awards, and recognizes an Overall Tour Champion for the season based on points.  Points are awarded based on finish position for each tournament.  At the end of the season, the Top 20 points leaders receive year end awards.  Only your best 8 tournaments will be counted for year end awards, meaning you can miss a tournament and still do well for the season. John Eckman of  Salem, VA won the Overall Points Championship for 2019 (2020 cancelled due to COVID). Tim Earhart of Salem, VA was the Tour Medalist Champion for the year.

Interested seniors can access a Tour Application by clicking the APPLICATION tab on the main Home Page.  We will
maintain a roster of 118 regular members, plus up to 10 alternates.  See the ALTERNATE PROGRAM tab for information on how that works.  We must provide an accurate count of participants to the golf courses, so we have two simple but extremely important rules.

  •  If you play in a tournament, you are automatically entered into the next event. You must notify us if you do not intend to play.
  • If you do not play in a tournament, you are not entered into the next tournament and you must notify us if you intend to play.

Failure to comply with these requests may result in you having to pay the tournament fee, although you didn't play, or being left out of the next tournament because you didn't notify us.

Please take the time to browse the website for complete information about the Tour, including: Schedule, Weather Policy, Alternates Program, Tour Rules of Play, Handicap System, Point System, and Awards.

Thank you for your support and participation. Enjoy the 2021 Tour, and please give a big thanks to the hosting courses who recognize the value of having the Roanoke Valley Senior Golf Tour as another great option for seniors in the area.
